Scapholunate Ligament Tear

Thin section coronal GRE images demonstrate partial tear of the scapholunate ligament.

Scapholunate ligament consists of three components:

  • Dorsal: strongest
  • Intermediate
  • Volar

Dorsal intercalated segmental instability (DISI) – dorsal tilt of the lunate on the lateral view indicates presence of scapholunate ligament insufficiency.

Scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) – capitate migrates proximal between scaphoid and lunate.
