Anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) is absent. Note intact anterior tibiofibular ligament on the most superior slice.
Discussion
ATFL should be seen on the most inferior axial slices through the tip of the lateral malleolus. This is a common ligamentous injury that can occur with ankle hyperinversion. Grading ranges from mild sprain (Grade I) to partial tear (Grade II) to complete tear (Grade III).
